Before & After Care Information
General Considerations before Sculpsure, to discuss with the Doctor
- If you have had liposuction, CoolSculpting, or other body-shaping procedures, let the Doctor know and we will determine the safest time to start SculpSure treatment. This is typically 4 months after liposuction or CoolSculpting procedures.
- If you have recently taken (or are taking) Accutane (isotretinoin), let the Doctor know. We will determine the safest time to start SculpSure treatment.
- Please let the Doctor know if you have a history of skin disorders, (light sensitivity, Lupus, keloid scar formation) before starting SculpSure.
- SculpSure treatment should wait for 3 months after pregnancy or breast feeding
- SculpSure treatment should be avoided over an unrepaired abdominal hernia
- If you have ever received Gold therapy (for arthritis etc), SculpSure treatment should be avoided
- Let the Doctor know if you are immunosuppressed from medications, or have HIV, leukemia etc as these can be considerations for SculpSure treatment
- Tell the Doctor if you take regular steroids (prednisone etc) or regular anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen etc) as these can affect the results from SculpSure treatment
- If you have known decreased sensation in the areas to be treated, tell the Doctor as it is important to have local sensation to gauge the intensity of the SculpSure therapy.
- If you have a tattoo on any area you wish to treat with SculpSure, let the Doctor know.
Advice for Before SculpSure Treatment
- Do not apply lotions or any other topical treatments to the area being treated with SculpSure.
- Trim the hair short (or shave) over the areas to be treated a day or so before the SculpSure treatment.
- Avoid direct sun or tanning for 2 weeks before a SculpSure treatment. If you are going to be in the sun, wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher). Recently burned or tanned skin increases the risk of complications from the SculpSure laser treatment .
- Avoid over the counter (or prescription) medications such as Aspirin (ASA), Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve), Diclofenac (Voltaren), Celecoxib (Celebrex), and others, for 10 days before a SculpSure treatment and for 10 days after treatment. SculpSure uses inflammation to achieve its effect, so hindering this process could affect results.
- Drink plenty of water and eat just a light breakfast or lunch before coming to your SculpSure appointment.
- Please wear simple black underwear/ sports undergarments to each SculpSure appointment, including initial consultations, treatments and follow-ups.
- On the day of your SculpSure treatment, wear comfortable, stretchy clothing such as sports / workout gear.
During Your SculpSure Treatment
- Baseline images & measurements with be taken prior to commencing treatment – please be reassured we will not use for advertising without your express written consent.
- The specialized SculpSure laser destroys fat cells by heating them. Because of this heat SculpSure can result in mild to moderate discomfort during the treatment (often described a deep sensation of warmth).
- The skin itself is kept cool during SculpSure.
- Each person’s experience to SculpSure is different, and each area treated can be different for each person. Your SculpSure provider will be in constant communication during the treatment and can make adjustments, including a rapid cooling when needed.
- The SculpSure laser pulses in cycles, so each heating phase is followed by a cooling phase of relief.
- Each area treated takes about 25 minutes. More than one area can be treated per day. It is a good idea to bring your phone with music as a distraction.
After Your SculpSure Treatment
- Massage the treated area 2 to 3 times per day. The shower is a great place.
- Applying cold compresses to the area intermittently the first 2 days or so after SculpSure treatment can be helpful.
- Tenderness after SculpSure may last a few days or up to 2 to 3 weeks. This should be mild.
- Skin can be more sun-sensitive for up to a few weeks after a SculpSure laser treatment. Apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to the treated areas if they are exposed to the sun.
- You can return to your regular routine immediately after a SculpSure treatment, and exercise is actually encouraged (be sure to hydrate well).
- Mild redness and tenderness of the skin can occur after SculpSure treatment. This typically resolves in a couple of days.
- Local swelling or tissue firmness and nodules may occur after SculpSure treatment. These are not harmful and may last from a few days to a few weeks. SculpSure treatments to the arms and thighs seem to have a higher incidence of nodule formation. As above, regular massage can help hasten the resolution of the nodules.
